Kennel van Stoopy
- GENERAL APPEARANCE:
The Longcoated German Shepherd dog is a powerful build dog with beauty and elegance.
Entirely in balance, every part of the body in harmony and proportion.
The size detracts nothing from it's pride and easy movement.
You only have to look at the alert, watchful eyes of those dogs and see the total devotion to work. The Longcoated German Shepherd dog is not aggressive.
- TEMPER:
Intelligent, brave, selfassured and a heart of gold. A dog that will always protect his house and loved ones.
This versatile and easy to train friend, loves to work for his boss. His excellent scent can be used in different ways. The dog is kind, gentle and nice to children and other animals.
- HEAD:
Slightly curved and in proportion with the body. Strong developed jaws en a slightly slope snout. Preferably the snout is black but another colour is acceptable. The snout should not be long, small or sharp en has to have black lips.
- EARS:
The ears are slightly pointy, in proportion with the body, forward en straight up when the dog is alert, and of a triangular shape.
- EYES:
Nuances from dark to very licht brown (yellow) are accepted. Other colours are not accepted. The eyes are of average size and almondshaped, slightly slope and not bulging. The eyelids connect with the eyeballs. The expression of the eyes should be lively, intelligent and calm.
- TEETH:
42 in total (20 in the upper jaw and 22 in the lower jaw), strong developend and one on top of another in a “scissors bite”. Overshot and undershot jaws are faults.
- NECK:
The neck is strong and muscular, quite long en slightly bend. The neck is in proportion with the head.
When the dog is alert, with head and neck stretched out, you will see the proud expression.
- FOREQUARTERS:
The shoulderblades are long, slope and lie flat. The upperarm stands in a 90 degree angle with the shoulderblade. Both shoulderblades and upperarms are muscular. The forelegs, seen from the side and front, are straight.
- FEET:
The feet are oval, compact with well bend toes. The soles are thick and solid. The nails dark and strong.
- SIZE:
The longcoated German Shepherd dog gives the impression that it is longer than that it is high. The desired height at the highest point of the shoulderblade should be not less than 60 cm. and not more than 65 cm. plus 2 or minus 1 cm. for dogs. For bitches the desired height is not less than 55 cm. and nog more dan 60 cm. plus or minus 2 cm.
- BODY:
The body as a whole has to look coordinated, strong and solid. The back is broad and straight, strong of bones and well developed. The chest has to be deep. A slope back has to be seen as a SERIOUS FAULT as well as a swinging backhand
- CHEST:
Beginning at the ribs, the chest is well developed, deep and broad, never low. The breastbone has to be seen in front of the shoulderprofile. The ribs are elastic and long, not round bent or flat and carried by the breastbone that reaches to the elbows. A good chest lets the elbows move freely when the dog walks.
- TAIL:
Brushed and with the last vertebra just over the heel tendon. The tail comes flowing from the crotch and seems to hang like a brush. At rest, the tail hangs in a light bend, like a sabel. When the dog is excited or in movement, the bend gets bigger and the tail rises, but it will never curl forward beyond the vertical line.
- HINDQUARTERS:
The thigh, seen from the side is broad and well muscled. Upper and lower leg stand in an 90 degree angle with regard to eachother.
- COLOUR:
The Longcoated German Shepherd dog comes in several colour varieties.
Shades of black with brown, golden brown, reddish brown, wolf grey, silver and cream are just as desired as shades of red, dark brown, dark grey (also called blue) or black.
Completely black or completely white is acceptable as long as de nose, eye edges and lips are deepblack.
The long coat is a tight closing double coat of middlecoarse hair with a softer, almost woolly undercoat. The head and snout, the back of the ears and front of the legs are covered in short, smooth hair. The neck has distinct manes that reach to the chest. The rest of the torso is covered with slightly shorter hair.
